The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 119 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Seven people were arrested, none of the parties were held for a bail hearing.
Refusal of Breath Demand
In the early morning of May 30, 2015, Chatham-Kent Police observed a vehicle driving in the lot of drinking establishment on Richmond St, Chatham. The driver remained in his running vehicle while his passenger exited. When speaking with officers, he exhibited signs of intoxication, emitted the odour of an alcoholic beverage off his breath, and admitted to having consumed two alcoholic beverages in the establishment. When he was given the demand for a breath sample, he refused.
34 year old, Anthony BUCHANAN, of Chatham, was arrested for Refusal, held in custody until sober, and released with a future court date.
Refusing to provide a breath sample when demanded falls under the same punishment section of Impaired Operation and Over 80 in the Canadian Criminal Code.
Stolen Vehicles
Two vehicles were reported stolen in rural Chatham-Kent on May 30, 2015. A 2007 Ford Freestyle was reported stolen from a residence in Dresden, and a GMC Sierra was reported stolen from a parking lot in Thamesville. In both cases a set of keys were left inside the interior console.
Chatham-Kent Police reminds citizens that it is not safe to leave keys in a vehicle under any circumstance. Your insurance company will not think highly of this either, if and when you decide to make an insurance claim.
Warrants
In the afternoon of May 30, 2015, a Chatham-Kent Police Officer conducted a vehicle stop in Dresden. It was learned that the driver had outstanding warrants for Breach of Probation and Failing to Attend Court.
The 26 year old Dresden man was arrested and transported to CKPS Headquarters, where he was later released with a future court date.
Credit Card Fraud
In the evening of May 30, 2015, Chatham-Kent Police were called to a grocery store on St. Clair St, Chatham, for suspicious behavior. Four parties were attempting to purchase an abnormally large quantity of product with a credit card that they could not get to process. The parties were located and detained by Police, while attempting to flee in a taxi. Through investigation, it was learned that the credit card did not belong to either of the parties, and was indeed stolen.
A 55 year old woman, 43 year old man, 29 year old female, and 26 year man, all residents of Chatham, were arrested and charged in relation to the credit card theft, possession, and fraud. All four parties were interviewed and later released with future court dates.
