Chatham-Kent Police Daily News Release – June 19, 2015

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 123 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested.

Update: Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision CK15016989

On June 11, 2015 shortly after 1:30 p.m. emergency crews responded to a collision between a Chevrolet car and a mobility scooter at the intersection of Chatham Street North and Hannibal Street in Blenheim.

The driver of the mobility scooter, Jennie Verbeek, 41 years of Blenheim was transported via ambulance to Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with life threating injuries and later airlifted to the London Health Sciences Centre where she succumbed to her injuries.

Yesterday, the 33-year-old North Buxton man driving the car was charged with careless driving. He was issued a court date of July 15, 2015.

Man Charged with Assault CK15017923

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a domestic disturbance in Chatham.

Around 1:00 a.m. this morning, the man attended his girlfriend’s residence and assaulted her. He also punched two holes in the drywall and broke a clock. The woman was able to flee the home and call for help. Officers located the man at the residence and he was taken into custody.

The 43-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault, mischief under $5000 and two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions of not to consume alcohol. He has been held pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Domestic Related Offences CK15017738

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with a domestic investigation.

On June 17, 2015, the man attended his girlfriend’s home and an argument began. The man assaulted the woman, threatened her and broke a window. The man fled the residence prior to police arrival.

Last night, officers located the man and he was taken into custody. The 24-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault with a weapon x2, assault x3, failing to comply x2, mischief under $5000 x2, uttering threats x2. He has been held pending a bail hearing.

Mischief in Chatham CK15017930

The Chatham-Kent police are looking for information regarding a mischief that occurred early this morning.

Around 4:45 a.m. officers responded to an alarm at Lally Kia on Richmond Street. Unknown suspect(s) threw a rock through a door and shattered a window of a car in the showroom. Total damage was estimated at $3000.

Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE)

Last night, officers conducted RIDE spot checks in Dresden and Wheatley.

A total of 65 vehicles were stopped and checked. No infractions were observed.
