Chatham-Kent Police Daily News Release – 07Feb2018

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 187 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Seven people were arrested. Two of the seven people were arrested on outstanding warrants.

Theft of Luggage CK18005600

On February 3, 2018 police responded to the Via Rail train station in Chatham in regards to a theft complaint. The woman exited the train in Chatham and stole a pink plaid Burberry bag and larger brown suitcase containing personal items belonging to two other passengers. Officers flooded the area, but did not locate the woman.

She is described as a white woman, thin build, blonde hair, approx. 5’4”, and was last seen wearing a blue and black patterned coat with dark pants.

Man Charged with Aggravated Assault CK18005910

On February 5, 2018 around 7:30 p.m. a verbal argument began outside a residence in Chatham between two men known to each other. The incident escalated into a physical altercation resulting in the man brandishing a knife and stabbing the other man.

The 25-year-old victim was transported by ambulance to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was transported to the courthouse yesterday pending a bail hearing.

Fraud Warning

Yesterday, a local citizen received a text from a banking institution stating that his account had been suspended. They provided him with a link in order to reactivate his account. Luckily, he did not click the link which would have likely resulted in his accounts being compromised.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind everyone that this is clearly example of phishing. Phishing is an attempt by cyber criminals to obtain personal and financial information such as usernames, passwords, credit card numbers and money by disguising themselves as trustworthy and reputable companies through electronic means.

Should you receive a text or email with a link from a source that you are not familiar with or have not initiated, please report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/index-eng.htm and delete the email or text immediately.

Man and Woman Charged with Dangerous Driving CK18004977

On January 30, 2018 an officer attended a residence in Wallaceburg in regards to a hang up 911 call. Through investigation, the officer learned about an incident that occurred on Wallace Street.

The man and woman agreed to give a female, known to them, a ride to another location. When the female got into the vehicle, they realized she had been drinking, so they turned around and asked her to get out of the vehicle. An argument began, resulting in the man, who was still in the driver’s seat, driving the vehicle forward as the female was trying to exit the car. The woman, who was in the passenger seat, reached backwards and assaulted the female. The man exited the vehicle at which time the woman got in the driver’s seat and drove forward as the female fell to the ground.

Yesterday, the 24-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. The 19-year-old Wallaceburg woman was arrested and charged with assault and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. Both were released with conditions pending a future court date of February 20, 2018.

Man Charged with Domestic Related Offences CK18005812

On February 5, 2018 police received information about a domestic-related incident that occurred in Chatham. Through investigation, police learned that a woman had been assaulted by her boyfriend on several occasions during their relationship.

Yesterday morning, the 39-year-old man attended police headquarters and turned himself in. He has been charged with four counts of assault and two counts of uttering threats. He was transported to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.
