(CHATHAM, ON) Over the weekend, the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received 28 calls for service in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
There were various calls for service consisting of traffic complaints, R.I.D.E., Marine and motor vehicle collisions.
On Friday June 17, 2016, at 9:03 a.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on highway 401near Victoria Road. It was reported a tractor trailer was cutting off other vehicles and was swerving in its lane.
The tractor trailer was located and followed for a short distance. The vehicle was observed crossing the centre line a number of times.
As a result, the male driver, Johan REMPEL, 38-years-old of Leamington was charged with fail to drive in marked lane contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
On Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 11:44 a.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on highway 401 near Victoria Road.
The vehicle which was traveling eastbound attempted to change lanes and did not see there was a vehicle in that lane. The driver swerved to avoid a collision causing the vehicle to rollover and come to rest in the centre median. There were minor injuries reported and the vehicle was towed from the highway.
As a result, the female driver, Colleen GILLETT, 56-years-old of Chatham has been charged with unsafe lane change contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
On Saturday, June 18, 2016, at 3:43 a.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to motor vehicle collision on highway 401 near Communication Road.
While driving in the construction zone, a transport truck had to stop abruptly causing the load plastic forming to come loose and strike the cab of the truck. There were no injuries reported and the vehicle had to be towed from the highway.
As a result, the male driver, Shaun COUGHLIN, 41-years-old of Harrisburg has been charged with insecure load contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
On Sunday, June 19, 2016, members of Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted LIDAR speed enforcement on Highway 401.
As a result, 13 speed related charges were laid.
Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to remind the public that as the weather starts getting warmer more traffic will be appearing on our roadways. The OPP will actively monitor the “Big 4” driving behaviours; impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt usage.
