(CHATHAM, ON) Over the weekend, the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received 30 calls for service in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
There were various calls for service consisting of traffic complaints, Liquor License Act offences, R.I.D.E., Marine and motor vehicle collisions.
On Friday June 24, 2016, around 2:20 p.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) member while on general patrol, on Highway 401 near Harwich Road, observed the occupant of a transport truck consuming an alcoholic beverage.
As a result, the male driver, Claude DESCHAMPS, 53-years-old of Windsor was charged with:
driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor contrary to the Liquor License Act; and
fail to surrender insurance card contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
The female passenger, Sanda BODIRLAU, 38 years-old of Windsor was charged with having liquor in open container in other than licensed premises, residence or private place contrary to the Liquor License Act.
On Friday, June 24, 2016 around 6:16 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on highway 401 near Bloomfield Road.
The vehicle was located and a young child was found not securely fastened in their car seat.
As a result, the male driver, Bilal CHARAF, 32-years-old of Michigan has been charged with fail to ensure infant properly secured contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
On Saturday, June 25, 2016, around 1:45 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) marine unit while on patrol on Lake St. Clair observed a boat towing a inflatable water tube without an observer.
As a result, the male driver, Victor LOPES, 44-years-old of Rodney has been charged with operating vessel to tow a person on water without a person on board other than the operator keeping watch on every person being towed contrary to the Small Vessel Regulations.
The Chatham-Kent OPP marine unit encourages boaters to enjoy the water this summer, but do it safely; always ensure you have the required safety equipment on board before you leave the dock.

Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to remind the public that as the weather starts getting warmer more traffic will be appearing on our roadways. The OPP will actively monitor the “Big 4” driving behaviours; impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt usage.
