Chatham-Kent OPP Weekend Report

(CHATHAM, ON) Over the weekend, Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received 33 calls for service in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

There were various calls for service consisting of traffic complaints, traffic enforcement, traffic hazards, R.I.D.E., impaired driving, and motor vehicle collisions.

On August 5, 2016, around 4:20 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 40 near Electric Line.

The driver of a northbound Harley Davidson Motorcycle was slowing down for a vehicle, which was turning onto Electric Line, when he was rear ended by a Pontiac Montana minivan.

The driver of the minivan continued driving northbound at a high rate of speed. The minivan was located a short time later. Neither driver reported injuries

As a result, the male driver, Cornelius DENBOER, 30- years-old of Wallaceburg, ON was charged with fail to stop at the scene of an accident and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

On August 6, 2016, around 1:40 p.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Scane Road when they observed a westbound vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The RADAR registered a speed of 140 km/hr.

The vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation, the female driver, Amanda FORCE, 43-years-old of Woodstock, ON, was charged with speeding and drive while under suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On August 7, 2016, around 12:25 a.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Victoria Road when they observed a westbound vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The RADAR registered a speed of 134 km/hr.

The vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation it was revealed that the driver was on a Justice’s Recognizance with several conditions which he was found to be breaching.

As a result, the male driver, Nicholas GREWAL, 26-years-old of Brampton was arrested and charged with the following offences;

Fail to Comply with Recognizance, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada,

Possession of a controlled substance, contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act, and

Speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused was held in custody pending a show cause hearing.

On August 7, 2016, around 3:20 a.m., a member of the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while on general patrol observed a blue Ford Focus committing a traffic violation.

The vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation, the male driver, Andrew WATTS, 24-year-old of Chatham, ON was charged with drive motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 7, 2016 to answer to the charges.

Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to remind the public that as the weather starts getting warmer more traffic will be appearing on our roadways. The OPP will actively monitor the “Big 4” driving behaviours; impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt usage.
