Chatham-Kent OPP Weekend Report

(CHATHAM, ON) Over the weekend, the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received 31 calls for service in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. The time frame is from Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. until Sunday night at 11:30 p.m.

There were various calls for service consisting of driving complaints, noise complaints, domestic/family disputes, Liquor Licence Act complaints, mischief complaints, 911 hang-ups, and R.I.D.E. programs.

On Friday April 15, 2016, around 3:30 p.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 near the Orford Road when a fast moving vehicle was observed.

A Honda Civic was driving westbound on Highway 401 at an excessive rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped and the male driver, Jacob FANCY, 20 years old of Raleigh Township has been charged with Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On Saturday April 16, 2016, around 1:30 a.m., a Chatham-Kent OPP officer was conducting RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Bloomfield Road when a fast moving vehicle was observed.

A Jeep Patriot was driving eastbound on Highway 401 at an excessive rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped and upon speaking with the four male occupants, the officer observed open cans of beer inside the vehicle.

As a result, the male driver, Rudy ORANTES, 34 years old of Kitchener, ON, has been charged with Driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.

On March 19, 2016, a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Bloomfield Road.

Around 3:57 p.m., the officer observed a westbound Ford Focus that appeared to be exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The RADAR registered a speed of approximately 177 km/hr.

The driver, quickly, exited the highway in an attempt to evade police, but the officer was able to track the vehicle and successfully initiate a traffic stop.

The male driver, Rony SALMAN, 38-year-old from Windsor, ON, has been charged with Racing A Motor Vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days, as per statute.

Between Friday April 15th and Sunday April 17th Chatham-Kent OPP conducted six R.I.D.E programs throughout the Municipality.

Chatham-Kent OPP want to remind the public that as the weather starts getting warmer more traffic will be appearing on our roadways. The OPP will actively monitor the “Big 4” driving behaviours; impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt usage.
