Chatham-Kent OPP Weekend Report

(CHATHAM, ON) Over the weekend, the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received 23 calls for service in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. The time frame is from Friday morning at 2:00 a.m. until Monday morning.

There were various calls for service consisting of traffic complaints, an impaired driving complaint, R.I.D.E., and motor vehicle collisions.

On Friday April 29, 2016, around 2:30 a.m., members of the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 near Queens Line.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the driver had left the roadway and came to rest in the ditch. The male driver, a 34-year-old from La Salle, ON was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

On Saturday, April 30, 2016, around 12:00 a.m., the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver operating a black Dodge Avenger eastbound on Highway 401 near Queens Line.

Police located and stopped the vehicle. Police found the driver had been drinking alcohol.

Jennifer McMillian, a 55-year-old female of Amherstburg, ON, has been charged with impaired operator of a motor vehicle, over 80 mgs and fail to comply with and Undertaking.

The accused is required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 25th, 2016 to answer to the charges.

On April 30, 2016, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on general patrol, on Highway 401 near Harwich Road, when he observed a vehicle committing a traffic violation.

The vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation, the male driver, MD Muklisur RAHMAN, age 36, of Buffalo, NY, was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Speed Measuring Warning Device contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On May 1, 2016, at approximately 10:00 a.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on general patrol, on Highway 401 near Orford Road, when she observed a vehicle committing a traffic violation.

The vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation, the male driver, Steven SNYDER, age 61, of Monterey, MA, was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Speed Measuring Warning Device contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to remind the public that as the weather starts getting warmer more traffic will be appearing on our roadways. The OPP will actively monitor the “Big 4” driving behaviours; impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt usage.
