Chatham-Kent OPP Weekend Report

(CHATHAM, ON) Over the Victoria Day Long weekend, the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 68 calls for service in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. The time frame is from Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. until Monday morning at 11:30 p.m.

There were various calls for service consisting of driving complaints, Liquor Licence Act complaints, impaired driving complaint, trespassing complaints, noise complaints, R.I.D.E programs and motor vehicle collisions.

On Friday May 20th, 2016, around 3:30 p.m., a member of the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment conducted a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) inspection on an eastbound Chevrolet Silverado which was towing a utility trailer.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered the vehicle was carrying double the allowable weigh limit. As a result, the male driver, Donald HENDRICKS, a 49-year-old of Pain Court, ON has been charged with drive overweight vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On Friday, May 20th, 2016, around 7:30 p.m., the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver operating a red Dodge pick-up truck in Rondeau Provincial Park.

Police located the vehicle and found the driver had been drinking alcohol.

As a result, the 18-year-old male driver of Blenheim, ON, has been charged with driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood.

The accused is required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 26th, 2016 to answer to the charges.

On Saturday, May 21st, 2016, around 2:30 p.m., members of Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting LIDAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Orford Road when a fast moving vehicle was observed.

A black Land Rover was driving westbound on Highway 401 exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The LIDAR registered a speed reading of 160 km/hr.

As a result, the male driver, David INGRAM, 60-year-old from Toronto, ON has been charged with racing a motor vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days, as per statute.

On Sunday, May 22nd, 2016, a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was advised of a motor vehicle collision involving a deer on Highway 401 near Queens Line.

Due to extensive front end damage, the vehicle had to be towed off the highway.

On Sunday, May 22nd, 2016, around 2:30 p.m., members of Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting LIDAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Orford Road when a fast moving vehicle was observed.

A Silver Chrysler 200 was driving westbound on Highway 401 exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The LIDAR registered a speed reading of 152 km/hr.

As a result, the female driver, Sholan NARINE, 61-year-old from Brampton, ON has been charged with racing a motor vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days, as per statute.

On Sunday, May 22nd, 2016, around 10:00 p.m., a member of Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Kent Bridge Road when a fast moving vehicle was observed.

A black Mitsubishi was driving westbound on Highway 401 exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The RADAR registered a speed reading of 151 km/hr.

As a result, the male driver, Desmond OSAFO, 21-year-old from Windsor, ON has been charged with racing a motor vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days, as per statute.

On Monday, May 23rd, 2016, around 3:30 p.m., a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on general patrol, on Highway 401 near Kent Bridge Road when he observed a vehicle committing a traffic violation.

The vehicle was stopped and upon further investigation, the male driver, Huanghe LI, 23-year-old from Michigan was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Speed Measuring Warning Device contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Over the weekend, 9 R.I.D.E programs were conducted throughout the Municipality.

Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to remind the public that as the weather starts getting warmer more traffic will be appearing on our roadways. The OPP will actively monitor the “Big 4” driving behaviours; impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt usage.
