(CHATHAM, ON) Over the weekend, Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received 33 calls for service in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. The time frame is from Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. until Monday morning at 6:00 a.m.
There were various calls for service consisting of traffic complaints, a wheel separation, and motor vehicle collisions.
WHEEL SEPARATION
On Saturday, June 4th, 2016, at 4:00 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a wheel separation on Highway 401 near Kent Bridge Road.
The driver reported she was driving eastbound, on Highway 401, where her front passenger side wheel separated from her vehicle. The wheel was located in the south ditch. The vehicle was towed from the highway.
DOWNED POWERLINES
On Sunday, June 5th, 2016, at 3:00 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of downed powerlines on Highway 40 near Fairview Line.
As a result, Highway 40 was shut down to allow hydro crews to repair the damage.
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION
On Sunday, June 6th, 2016, at 12:30 a.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 near Orford Road. The vehicle, which was travelling westbound on Highway 401, was reported to be tailgating other vehicles and driving aggressively, when the driver lost control and drove into the ditch.
Upon further investigation, the male driver, Simeon SANCHEZ, 54-year-old of Windsor was charged with careless driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to remind the public that as the weather starts getting warmer more traffic will be appearing on our roadways. The OPP will actively monitor the “Big 4” driving behaviours; impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt usage.
