(CHATHAM, ON) Over the weekend, Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received 42 calls for service in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
There were various calls for service consisting of traffic complaints, traffic enforcement, traffic hazards, R.I.D.E. and motor vehicle collisions.
On February 17, 2017 around 3:30 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a commercial motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 near Bloomfield Road.
Westbound traffic was in a slowdown due to an ongoing commercial motor vehicle collision. The driver of a westbound commercial motor vehicle collided with stopped commercial motor vehicle. There were no injuries and both vehicles sustained moderate damage. One of the vehicles had to be towed from the highway.
As a result, the male driver, Manpreet SINGH, 30-years-old of Brampton has been charged with careless driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
On February 18, 2017, around 9:30 a.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a property damage complaint on ighway 401 near Communication Road.
The complainant advised a large piece of ice flew off the top of a commercial motor vehicle trailer and struck the passenger side of their vehicle causing minor damage.
As a result, the vehicle had to be towed from the highway.
On February 18, around 2:15 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 401.
Upon further investigation, the driver was suspended from driving.
As a result, the male driver was charged with speeding and driving while under suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
On February 18, 2017, around 9:00 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 401 near Orford Road.
Upon further investigation, the driver was found to be suspended from driving and officers found the driver had been drinking alcohol. A roadside test was conducted on the driver who registered an Alert.”
