The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 92 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested.

Motor Vehicle Collision Leads to Impaired Driving Charge CK17010173

Yesterday around 5:00 p.m. emergency crews responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Grand River Line in Chatham. The vehicle left the roadway and came to a stop against a tree. The vehicle damage was considered unrepairable and was towed from the scene. The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital by E.M.S.

Through investigation it was determined that the man driving who was driving the vehicle, was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and completed the breath tests while at the hospital.

Byron Johnston, 38 years, of Dahlia Drive in Chatham was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. He was released with a future court date of Wednesday, April 12, 2017.

Man Charged with Impaired Driving CK17010183

Last night just before 8:00 p.m. emergency personnel responded to another motor vehicle collision, this time on Grand Avenue East in Chatham. The vehicle left the roadway after reportedly crossing the centre line, forcing oncoming vehicles to swerve out of the way. The vehicle eventually came to a stop against a utility pole causing approximately $5000 to the vehicle. The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital by E.M.S.

The officer on scene believed that the man who was driving the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and completed the breath tests while at the hospital.

Johan Banman, 19 years, of Talbot Road East in Leamington was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. He was released with a future court date of Wednesday, April 12, 2017.

Man Charged with Fraud CK17006288

In February 2017, police attended an address in Chatham due to a report of a domestic dispute. It was learned that the man had stolen a credit card from a woman he had been married to and that the card had been used on multiple occasions without her consent. The man was not at the residence when police attended.

Last night at 6:30 p.m. the man was arrested by police.

The 39-year-old Wheatley man was charged with theft of a credit card and 28 counts of fraud under $5000. He was released with a court date of Wednesday, April 12, 2017.
