Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 26July2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 162 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested.

Woman Turns Herself in on Outstanding Warrant CK16023327

On July 20, 2016 police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Wheatley. At this time, a man reported that he had been assaulted by his common-law wife. She left the residence prior to police arrival.

Through investigation, police learned that this was not the first incident of domestic violence between the couple. Yesterday morning, the woman turned herself in to police. The 44-year-old Wheatley woman has been charged with assault, mischief under $5000 and two counts of assault with a weapon. She was transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Breaching his Probation Order CK16023452

Earlier this month, a warrant was issued for the man as he failed to comply with conditions of his Probation Order.

Shortly after 3:00 a.m. this morning, police located the man and he was arrested. The 40-year-old Chatham man has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman Arrested on Outstanding Warrants CK16023454

Just before 4:00 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol in the area of Raleigh Street and Cross Street in Chatham observed two woman walking. When the woman observed the marked cruiser, they fled on foot through backyards.

The officer located the one woman who was wanted on three outstanding warrants. The 27-year-old Wallaceburg woman has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Traffic Enforcement

Yesterday, members of the CKPS Traffic Unit and Ministry of Transportation conducted a commercial vehicle safety blitz in Wallaceburg.

As a result:

– 21 vehicles were inspected

– 7 vehicles were taken out of service

– 13 Provincial Offences Act charges were laid

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind commercial vehicle motorists that random inspection blitz will continue throughout the Municipality. It is the responsibility of all owners and operators to ensure their vehicles are safe and compliant with Ontario rules and regulations.

Stolen SUV in Wheatley CK16023322

Sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning, unknown suspect(s) stole a red 2003 Ford Explorer from a residence on Buchanan Drive. The vehicle was last seen with Ontario license plates BRWP 164.

Stolen Car from Chatham CK16023305

Sometime between July 24, 2016 at 10:00 p.m. and July 25, 2016 at 6:30 a.m. unknown suspect(s) stole a blue 2013 Mazda sedan from a residence on Mercer Street. The vehicle was last seen with Ontario license plates AYKK 516.
