The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 150 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Six people were arrested. Two of the six people were arrested on outstanding warrants.
Man Charged with Break and Enter CK16015927
Yesterday morning around 5:30 a.m. an employee of Stealth Metals on Mason Street in Wallaceburg found the man rifling through cars inside the fenced compound. The man left the area prior to police arrival. Through investigation, the man was identified and arrested last night.
The 26-year-old Wallaceburg man has been charged with break and enter and failing to comply with his curfew condition. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Assault and Resist Police CK16015968
Around noon yesterday, a concerned citizen contacted police to report a domestic assault outside in the area of Gray Street in Chatham. Upon police arrival, the man began yelling and was uncooperative with police. As the officer placed the man under arrest and attempted to handcuff him, the man refused to comply. Following a short struggle, the man was taken in custody. His 16-year-old girlfriend did not require medical attention as a result of the altercation.
The 19-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault and resisting a peace officer. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Theft and Assault CK16016020
Last night, shortly after 6:00 p.m. the man entered Home Depot on Pioneer Line in Chatham. The man selected a Dewalt 20 volt Max XR drill combo pack valued at $300. The man exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the item. The loss prevention officer followed the man outside in an attempt to arrest him. The man resisted arrest by pushing the employee back and throwing elbows. Fortunately, police arrived quickly and the man was taken into custody.
Marcus Pennings, 25 years, of Taylor Avenue in Chatham has been charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and assault with the intent to resist arrest. He was released pending a future court date of June 24, 2016.
Man Charge with Impaired Driving and Flight from Police CK16016047
Last night, just before 10:00 p.m. an officer on general patrol observed the man driving a Ford F-150 pick-up truck in Blenheim. The man’s driving caught the attention of the officer. As a result, the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, however the man continued at a high rate of speed through a townhouse parking lot. The man stopped quickly at a chain link fence and jumped out of the driver’s seat leaving the truck running and in gear. The man was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters for breath tests.
James Miners, 25 years, of Hale School Road in Croton has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit and flight from police. He was released pending a future court date of June 17, 2016.
Update: Youth Charged with Assault with a Weapon CK16015099
On May 27, 2016 police arrested and charged a 12-year-old Chatham boy with assault with a weapon following an incident after school on the bus ride home. As a result of further investigation this week, the Chatham-Kent Police Service will not be proceeding with the charge.
