Domestic Assault with Weapon
In the morning of January 1, 2016, Chatham-Kent Police responded to a domestic dispute in Charing Cross. Through investigation it was learned that the man and woman’s relationship ended mid-2015, but was currently residing at the home until he could establish his own residence.
Earlier in the morning, an argument ensued after the man demanded a large knife (14-15” blade) that the female hid after being left out in plain sight. Once he obtained the knife, he began swinging it at the foot of her bed, causing slash marks and chipping to her wooden footboard. As she screamed for him to stop, he threw the knife in her direction, hitting the wall directly above the headboard. After refusing to leave, the female attempted to call Police with her cell phone, but the man shoved her away and grabbed her phone. The physical struggle for the phone continued into the hallway, and the female was struck in the face, causing a swollen lip and bloody nose. She eventually fled to another portion of the house and grabbed a secondary phone, then made it to her vehicle to call Police.
The 36 year old Charing Cross man was arrested and charged with Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Assault with a Weapon and Assault. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
