Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 02Aug2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 115 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested. One of the three people was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place.

Motor Vehicle Collision CK16024038

On July 30, 2016 at approximately 4:00 a.m. emergency crews responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Victoria Road near Reeders Line, just outside of Ridgetown.

The driver, a 25-year-old Blenheim man, lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway, struck a tree and came to rest in a ditch. He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and transferred to London Health Sciences Centre with life threatening injuries. He has been stabilized and remains in serious condition.

The collision remains under investigation by the Traffic Management Section. Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Jason Herder at 519-355-1092.

Man Charged with Break and Enter CK16024364

Yesterday morning, shortly after 8:00 a.m. a concerned citizen flagged down an officer on general patrol on Grand Avenue East in Chatham in regards to a suspicious man exiting a property under construction. Officers flooded the area and upon seeing police, the man fled on foot. He was taken into custody following a short foot chase. Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of various tools and crystal methamphetamine.

Gordon Pierce, 47 years, of Wellington Street East in Chatham was charged with break and enter, possession of break-in instruments and drug possession. He was released pending a future court date of August 25, 2016.

Man Charged with Stealing Copper Wire CK16024378

Yesterday morning, at 11:15 a.m. police responded to Picard Construction on Park Avenue West in Chatham in regards to a break and enter. Through investigation, police identified the man responsible for stealing copper wiring valued at approximately $25.

Shawn Couvillon, 39 years, of Eighth Street, in Chatham was arrested and charged with break and enter and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was released pending a future court date of August 24, 2016.

Motor Vehicle Collision in Bothwell CK16024366

Yesterday morning at 9:30 a.m. police responded to a two vehicle collision on Chestnut Street. A 70-year-old Bothwell woman struck a parked car.

Luckily, no one was injured. Total damage was estimated at $4000.

She was charged with careless driving.

Bikes Stolen from Garage CK16024367

Sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning, unknown suspect(s) stole four bikes from a locked shed on Braemar Boulevard in Chatham. Total value of the theft has been estimated at $2000.
