(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On January 2, 2017, members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) commenced a theft investigation regarding gift cards that had been mailed from a local postal outlet.
The West Parry Sound OPP Crime unit, with the assistance of Postal Inspectors from Canada Post, determined that during the months of November and December 2016, a number of items intended for shipping were never sent.
As a result of the investigation, Denni-Lee SMITH, 28 years of age from McDougall Township was arrested and charged with:
Theft Under $5000, 10 counts, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
Theft From Mail – Sent By Post, 10 counts, contrary to section 356(1) of the CC
Fraud Under $5000, contrary to section 380(1) of the CC
Obstruct Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC
Public Mischief, contrary to section 140(1)(c) of the CC
Traffic In Credit Card, contrary to section 342(1)(c) of the CC
Use of Credit Card, 2 counts, contrary to section 342(1)(c) of the CC
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on April 6, 2017.
