Charges Laid In Collisions On Hwy 17

(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON) – On April 5, 2016 at 12:20 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17, approximately 27 kilometres east of Blind River.

As a result of the investigation, distraction is considered to be a factor. Shanna STADLER, 34 years of age, from Mankato, Minnesota, was charged with: Careless Driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act.

(TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE, ON) – On April 1, 2016 at 1:31 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of the North Shore Fire Department were called to a motor vehicle collision involving three vehicles on Highway 17, approximately 22 kilometres east of Blind River.

An eastbound vehicle crossed the centre line coming into contact with a westbound vehicle, then continuing on and collided with a second westbound vehicle head on. The Highway was closed for approximately 2 two hours.

As a result of the investigation, Laura HIRSCHY, 34 years of age, from Fort Wayne, Indiana, was charged with: Careless Driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act. Two female drivers from the motor vehicle collision site were transported to local hospitals as a precaution.

Every driver person that sits behind the steering wheel of a motor vehicle has a responsibility to ensure that he or she and its passengers arrive to their destination safely. The OPP continues to target those who put the wellbeing of others at risk by operating motor vehicles in violation of provincial and federal legislation.
