(PERRY TWP) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Saturday July 20, 2013 at approximately 5:00pm on Highway 518 east of Emsdale, ON.
The OPP along with Parry Sound Emergency Medical Service (EMS), the Perry Township Fire Department and the Kearney Fire Department attended the collision. The investigation revealed that a west bound 2010 Dodge Caravan crossed the center line and entered into the east bound lane on Highway 518. An east bound 2009 Toyota Matrix took evasive action to avoid the collision but was struck by the Caravan on the right hand side. A rear female passenger, Nichole LEWIS (35) of Richmond Hill was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The other four passengers in the matrix and the driver of the caravan were all transported by ambulance to the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police have completed their investigation into the collision and have charged the driver of the Dodge Caravan, John KLEIN (76) of Kitchener, Ontario with careless driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
KLEIN is to appear in Sundridge Court on Thursday November 14, 2013
