(Madoc, ON) – In mid-November Central Hastings O.P.P. initiated an investigation after a complaint was made involving a 12 year old female receiving sexually explicit text messages and photographs from a 19 year old male. The interaction which took place throughout the month of August 2013 was transmitted over various social media websites by means of handheld communication devices.
On December 13, 2013 the now 20 year old man of Madoc, ON was arrested and charged with two counts of Luring a Person Under 16 years of age by means of Telecommunication, Transmit Sexually Explicit Material to a Person Under 14 years of age and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing on December 16, 2013 at Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville.
The name of the accused is being withheld in order to protect the identity of the victim.
Central Hastings O.P.P would like to remind parents and youths of important online safety tips. Despite appearing to be able to “handle†most situations, children require and unconsciously seek adult guidance.
