(Bancroft, Ontario) ā On the 30th of April 2015, a local non-profit community group reported a fraud relating to the Astor Construction Group who had been hired to construct a multi-unit dwelling complex in the Bancroft area. As a condition of the contract, it was required that the construction company be bonded, as per policies laid out by the Ministry of Community and Social Services. The contractor provided the Performance and Material Bonds to the non-profit group.
Concerned about the lack of progress by Astor Construction, efforts were made by the complainants to recollect their deposit. At that time, they learned from the issuing Insurance Company that the bonds were in fact invalid.
As a result of the police investigation, the Director of Astor Construction Group, 33 year old Shane Ross of Belleville, has been charged with two counts of Making a Forged Document, and two counts of Uttering a Forged Document. He was summonsed to appear in Bancroft court on the 18th of August 2015.
