(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – Members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a residence in Carling Township on April 22, 2014 were it was alleged that a person had fired shots with a rifle. Police attended and upon investigation discovered a man had improperly used his firearm and did not have the proper documents to possess the firearms. As a result, Randy Fletcher, 46 years of age from Carling Township, was charged with two counts of Careless Use of Firearms and Unauthorized Possession of Firearms, both contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Parry Sound on May 15, 2014 to answer to his charges.
The OPP would like to remind the public that although the Federal Long Gun Registry has been abolished, a firearm owner still has several responsibilities to adhere to regarding licencing, registration and safe storage of firearms and ammunition.
