(LAKESHORE, ON) – On February 2nd, 2015 at approximately 5:45am a 49 year old Lakeshore woman was driving her newer Ford Focus south bound on Renaud Line, Lakeshore. As she was travelling over the Via Rail tracks her vehicle became stuck in the snow. The driver was attempting to dislodge her vehicle from the snow bank when she saw and heard an east bound train approaching her location. The female was able to safely exit the vehicle and call 911.
As the OPP Communication Centre was attempting to contact Via Rail dispatch, the crash occurred. The vehicle was split in half and demolished. There was minor damage to the train, and no one was injured on the train or vehicle. The train was leaving the Windsor Terminal with 43 passengers.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area while Via Rail repairs the signalling devices and they are determined functioning and safe.
No charges to be laid.
