Car Struck By Train – One Sent To Hospital – Pedestrian Struck And Sent To Hospital

(BRIGHTON, ON) – On Wednesday December 17, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) became extremely busy near the end of the day investigating two separate collisions in the Municipality of Brighton.

At 5:23 pm yesterday OPP received a report of a car being hit by a train at the Lawson Settlement Road area. A motorist had turned onto the CN rail mistakenly thinking it was a very bumpy County Road 2. He had assisted his female passenger out of the vehicle and went to a nearby residence to get assistance. The female was well away from the vehicle however, the silver Chevy Cruz was stuck on the tracks and struck by an oncoming train. The female was transported to local hospital by ambulance after sustaining non-life threatening injuries from the car’s debris. The rail line was closed for approximately two hours while OPP investigated.

One minute later, as OPP were being called to the train incident, officers were dispatched to a vehicle / pedestrian collision on Park Street in Brighton. A 50 year old Brighton male was struck by a slow moving Dodge Ram truck that was turning into the Rexall parking lot from Prince Edward Street. The male was not visible to the driver of the Ram until the very last minute because he was wearing very dark clothing and came from behind a building across the street. The male was also transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There was no traffic closures related to this collision.

OPP continue to investigate both collisions.
