Camiel GAVAERT – Dangerous Driving, Hit and Run

(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – A 59-year-old Lakeshore, ON. man has been arrested and charged with several Criminal Code and other offences after being involved in a single motor vehicle collision on Saturday October 3rd, 2015 around 10:49am.

The collision occurred on Highway #3 just west of Sunset Rd. in the area of the Talbotville Livestock exchange business, Southwold Township. A 2015 Ford F150 pick-up truck was traveling west on Highway #3 at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and traveled into the north ditch. The truck collided with two business signs, damaged a gas line barrier post and then collided with a hydro pole causing it to collapse. The driver then continued driving, traveling east in the westbound lane of highway #3 almost colliding with a vehicle traveling westbound. The pick-up then collided with a guardrail and then came to rest in the northbound ditch.

The collision caused power outages around the area.

As a result of the investigation police arrested at the scene, Camiel GAVAERT, age 59, of Lakeshore, ON. He is charged with;

Dangerous Driving under the Criminal Code.

Failing to remain at the scene of a collision contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Possession of a controlled substance – Cannabis Marihuana under 30grams contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act.

Failing to Comply with Undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code.

GAVAERT is to appear in St. Thomas Criminal Court on October, 26th, 2015.
