CAMBRIDGE MAN CHARGED WITH REFUSE AND RESIST

(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP, ON) – On December 21, 2013 at approximately 3:00 a.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Festive R.I.D.E. Team were conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks on Highway 7 at the Guelph-Woolwich Townline in Guelph-Eramosa Township.

Officers investigated the male driver of a 2003 Chevy that entered into the check point. The driver showed signs of alcohol consumption and a breath sample demand was read by police for him to provide a sample of his breath into the approved roadside device. The driver refused to provide a sample of his breath and was placed under arrest, however, refused to cooperate with police.

Thomas Parent aged 26 of Cambridge has been charged with Refuse to Provide Breath Sample and Resist Arrest contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on January 21, 2014 to answer to the charges.

The Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
