CALEDON OPP SUPPORTS HOMEJAMES

(CALEDON, ON) – Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) remind you to plan your transportation requirements carefully as we approach the holiday season. The key to avoiding alcohol related collisions and impaired driving charges is to completely eliminate the possibility of getting behind the wheel after drinking. How do you plan early and avoid the possibility of impaired driving?

1) Leave the car at home, alternatives may include: taxi – public transportation – walk – sleep overs – hotels etc.

2) Designated Driver: this driver consumes no alcohol or drugs and takes on the responsibility of assuring that his/her passengers arrive safely home. This could be one of the biggest bargains of your life.

3) In the Caledon area it is highly recommended that you use the Caledon HomeJames program. With a little planning, HomeJames volunteers can go to your location, pick you and your vehicle up, take you home, with no cost associated to this alternative. This remarkably well organized group is operated by community volunteers who ask for nothing other than a collision free festive season.

Caledon OPP Detachment Interim Detachment Commander, Inspector Dom Beckett recognizes the HOMEJAMES volunteers as valued community safety partners. “HomeJames aligns well with aggressive OPP enforcement during the annual Festive R.I.D.E. program. These volunteers have recognized the threat, targeted the behavior and provided an alternative. We have a strong OPP enforcement component and now we have a community based alternative to drinking and driving.”
