CALEDON OPP FESTIVE RIDE RESULTS

(CALEDON, ON) – In a media release dated January 2nd, 2013 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported significantly fewer impaired driving charges during their 2013 Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Campaign. The campaign ran from November 23 to January 2, 2014 and during that time the OPP laid 578 impaired driving charges and issued 481 Warn Range Suspensions throughout the province.

Locally, members of the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police initiated 89 RIDE blitzes during the campaign. Members arrested ten drivers for Impaired Driving or Over 80, issued twelve 3-day suspensions and one 7-day suspension and seven Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) charges.

Inspector Tim Melanson “Due to the efforts of front-line officers as well as educational campaigns on impaired driving, we have seen a huge reduction in numbers of charges laid throughout the 2013-2014 R.I.D.E. campaign. Community driven programs such as “HomeJames” has assisted in the decrease of impaired drivers within the Town of Caledon. We recognize their efforts in ensuring the community is a safer place to live.”

The OPP would again like to thank Ontarians who helped carry out a successful campaign by not drinking and driving, not letting family and friends drive while impaired by drugs or alcohol and for calling 9-1-1 to report suspected impaired drivers.
