Bridge Dedication To Fallen Officer From 1929

(BANCROFT, ON) – A local bridge has officially become a memorial to a fallen Town of Bancroft Police Officer, who was killed in the line of duty in July of 1929 while serving the citizens of Bancroft.

Police Constable Thomas KEHOE was killed while on duty in July of 1929, when he was struck by a car on Hastings Street North, in the area of John Street, in the Town of Bancroft. He was investigating a liquor violation when the collision occurred.

The bridge honouring Constable KEHOE is the Station Street Bridge crossing the York River, in the Town of Bancroft.

The Dedication Ceremony took place on July 25th, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Station Street Bridge. Banners had already been in place on the bridge’s streetlight standards showing historic photographs of Constable KEHOE, and during the ceremony, signs displaying the newly named bridge in memorial of him publicly displayed.

As a gesture of respect, bridge dedications are intended to posthumously recognize police officers who have courageously and unselfishly given their lives in the line of duty to preserve our free and peaceful society.
