Brian CURRIE – Assault Police, Impaired Driving

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – On February 2nd, 2016, at approximately 5:45pm officers from the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information about a possible impaired driver.

Information was given that a male party had been involved in a collision with another vehicle that was being driven by a female. The two parties spoke after the collision but did not exchange any information. The collision resulted in damage being over $2000.

Officers from the Quinte West Detachment located the suspect vehicle and the driver a short time later. During the investigation the officer determined that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. While arresting the male the officer was assaulted by the accused.

Brian CURRIE, 47, of Quinte West has been charged with:

Driving While Ability Impaired – 253(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada

Assault a Peace Officer – 270(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada

Fail to give required information 200(1)(c) of the Highway Traffic Act

The officer was not injured in during the incident.

Officers are also looking to speak to the female driver of the motor vehicle that was involved in the collision with a silver Chrysler 300.

The male was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice Belleville on February 18th, 2016.
