Break and Enter on Gray Street, Chatham

At approximately 12:00 pm yesterday the accused attended the victim’s residence on Grey Street to visit a relative who resides in the complex. While in the building the accused tried the door handle to the victims unit and found it to be unlocked. The accused entered the unit and stole personal property valued at approximately $8000.

At 4:20 pm the victim returned home and discovered the break and enter. The Chatham-Kent Police Service was called to report the break and enter and Police were dispatched to investigate.
Police canvassed the area and eventually spoke to a citizen who suspected a person witnessed at the building earlier on in the day. Police located the accused and spoke to him regarding the break and enter. Subsequently, the accused provided police with an inculpatory statement and as a result, he was arrested and charged with Break and Enter as well as Possession of Stolen Property. All the stolen property was recovered and returned to the rightful owner.
