Brantford Crime Briefs – 13May2016

Type: Arrest- Theft of Lottery tickets

Locations: Fairview Drive and King George Road

Incident: On Friday, May 13th 2016 at 12:30am, Brantford police were called regarding a theft that had just occurred at a convenience store on Fairview Drive. Information was that a slim white male, approximately 30 years of age, had just stolen lottery tickets and departed on foot.

While police were responding to the incident on Fairview Drive, an additional call for service was received at a King George Road gas bar that a slim white male, approximately 30 years of age wearing a burgundy hoodie type sweater had stolen lottery scratch tickets as well. Police immediately linked the two calls as being the same person responsible for both thefts.

Police investigation revealed the male had got into a taxi at both locations. A taxi in the area of King George Road was stopped and a male matching the description was found to be the fare. When police arrested the male they found the stolen lottery tickets from the King George Road gas bar (the other lottery tickets were not located). A 32 yr old Brantford man has been charged with 2 counts of Theft Under $5,000. 1 count Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000.00. To make matters worse, the male had no money to pay for the taxi that he used in both thefts and therefore was also charged with 1 count of Fraudulently Obtaining Transportation.

Type: Arrest- Theft of Scrap Metal

Locations: Hardy Road

Incident: On Monday April 25, 2016 and Monday May 2, 2016, police investigated the theft of scrap metal from a Hardy Road business during the early morning hours. Both thefts were captured on video equipment showing a male loading a large amount of scrap metal into the rear of an older model pick-up truck with aftermarket rims.

On Friday May 13, 2016 at 2:10am, an officer observed the same vehicle driving southbound onto Zatonski Avenue, past the scrap metal bins. The 33 yr old Brantford male was stopped and through investigation has been charged with the two thefts on April 25 and May 2. The male stands charged with two counts of Theft Under $5,000.

Type: Arrest- Impaired Driving

Locations: Brantwood park Road

Incident: An officer on patrol observed a vehicle on Brantwood Park Rd driving suspiciously around 245am on May 13, 2016. The officer observed the vehicle drive with signs of an impaired driver operating it. When the vehicle rolled through an intersection it was immediately pulled over. The driver failed the roadside screening device. Once arrested and back at the station the male provided breath samples which were almost twice the legal limit. A 35 yr old Brantford man has been charged with Over .08 and had his driver’s licence suspended and vehicle impounded for 7 days.
