(BRACEBRIDGE, ON) – Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received a complaint from a motorist on Saturday night, June 18, 2016, just before midnight of a vehicle travelling on Muskoka Road 118 in Bracebridge with a couch on its roof, driving aggressively and at times into oncoming traffic. Police located the vehicle backing into a parking spot in a nearby plaza and dealt with the driver, who alternated between being cooperative with police and struggling and fighting to get free.
The police investigation revealed that the driver was on probation and had actually stolen the involved vehicle from a family member.
24 year-old Brandon RIGHETTI of Bracebridge has been charged with the following offences:
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle CC 249(1)(a)
Break, Enter & Theft CC 348(1)(b)
Theft of a Motor Vehicle CC 334(a)
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime CC 354(1)(a)
Mischief Under $5000 CC 430(4)
Assault a Peace Officer CC 270(1)(a) X 2
Fail to Comply with Probation CC 733.1(1)
The accused was held for a bail hearing and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Monday June 20, 2016 to answer to his charges.
