(NORTH MIDDLESEX, ON) – On September 2, 2015, at approximately 5:59 a.m., the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a bomb threat at a youth facility on New Ontario Road.
The facility received two phone calls reporting a bomb had been placed at four locations at the facility.
While police investigated the incident, appropriate resources were deployed, and the facility was locked down.
No suspicious packages were located, and the facility resumed normal operations.
New Ontario Road, between Petty Street and Cassidy Road, was closed during the investigation. It was reopened at approximately 8:20 a.m.
The Middlesex County OPP Crime Unit, assisted by the Essex County OPP Crime Unit, and the Windsor Police Service, continued to investigate this incident.
As a result of the police investigation, 61-year-old Lawrence SHANFIELD, from Windsor, Ontario, was arrested, and has been charged with uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm X2, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear, and is scheduled to appear in a London court on October 29, 2015 to answer to the charges.
