Body Recovered After Boat Capsizes – No Lifejackets

(LOYALIST TOWNSHIP) On Saturday, June 3, 2017 at approximately 8:10 p.m., officers from Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Napanee detachment, OPP Marine Unit, with the assistance of the Canadian Coast Guard and Kingston and Loyalist Fire Departments, responded to a report of a 14 foot aluminum fishing boat that capsized on Lake Ontario between Amherst Island and Grape Island in Loyalist Township.

Police investigation revealed that the occupants, a 19 year old man and 31 year old man, both from Loyalist Township were not wearing personal flotation devices at the time the boat capsized. The 19 year old man was able to make it the shore and the other man was last seen in the water and was unaccounted for.

On June 4, 2017, at approximately 3:00 p.m. the efforts to find the missing male came to a conclusion when the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit located the male deceased.

The deceased male has been identified as 31 year old, Ronald Arthur McGINN of Loyalist Township. The Office of the Chief Coroner attended the scene and the Post Mortem has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 6th at Ottawa Hospital.

Napanee OPP Crime Unit will be continuing with the investigation.
