(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) On April 22, 2015 Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) requested Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assistance with search efforts for a missing person who may have gone through the ice in Eabametoong First Nation (Fort Hope, ON.)
Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU,) Emergency Response Team (ERT) members and the OPP Helicopter were sent to assist. OPP Provincial Liaison Team (PLT) members were also activated and on scene.
On April 24, 2015 OPP divers (USRU) located the body of a deceased male believed to be the missing person. Sioux Lookout OPP is now investigating the incident.
The identity of the deceased cannot be confirmed at this time. A post mortem is scheduled for Monday, April 27, 2015 in Kenora, ON. Foul play is not suspected at this time.
Eabametoong First Nation is located approximately 385 km north of Thunder Bay.
