Body Of 16 Year Old Passenger Recovered After Snowmobile Goes Through Ice

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) -Last night, at approximately 10:20 p.m., officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident on Lake Scugog in Manvers Township involving a motorized snow vehicle (MSV).

The investigation revealed that two MSV’s were travelling on Lake Scugog and each was carrying two occupants. The lead MSV drove into open water while the second managed to get stopped. The second pair was able to assist the male driver from the water, but attempts to rescue the female passenger were unsuccessful.

The OPP, along with ground units from Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) and the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service were assisted by the City of Kawartha Lakes Fire Department in the rescue attempt. First responders were also assisted by the DRPS helicopter that was able to provide lighting and aerial support in locating the missing female passenger.

Sixteen year old Sarah LUMSDEN of Lindsay, Ontario was located a short time later and transported to hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
