(RYERSON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On May 8, 2016, members of the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Midlothian Road in Ryerson Township. During the stop, police discovered the driver was a suspended driver. Further investigation and a search of the vehicle led to the seizure of cannabis marihuana, methamphetamine and a prohibited weapon.
The driver, John BERRY, 29 years of age from Kitchener was arrested and charged with:
Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to Prohibition order contrary to the Criminal Code (CC) 2 counts.
Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the CC.
Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana – under 30 grams as per the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).
Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – Other Drugs as per the CDSA.
Driving while under suspension – while suspended under HTA Sec 41/42 contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) 2 counts.
Use plate not authorized for vehicle contrary to the HTA.
Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner contrary to the HTA.
Operate a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to the Canadian Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA).
The accused was held in custody and will appear for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound.
The passenger, Martina BALL, 21 years of age from Kitchener, was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule II substance – Cannabis Marihuana – under 30 grams as per the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).
The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on June 9, 2016 to answer to her charges.
