(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) – On December 10, 2016 at approximately 1:13 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Festive R.I.D.E. Unit were conducting spot checks on Highway 6 near College Avenue in the City of Guelph. A 2003 Toyota entered the R.I.D.E. program and while officers were speaking with the driver obvious signs of alcohol consumption were observed. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.
30-year-old Benjamin PAYTON of Guelph has been charged with Over 80 Mgs contrary to the Criminal Code. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on January 6, 2017. His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.
