Bears Trap Hunter In Tree Stand

(DRYDEN, ON) On Saturday, September 7, 2013, at approximately 11:00pm members of the Dryden Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report from a camp owner that a hunter had left for a tree stand around 2:30pm and had not returned. The camp owner went to check on him and learned that he had 4 cubs and 3 adult bears around the stand not allowing him out of the tree. Officers were met at the landing off of Detour Point Road and were escorted across the lake by the camp owner. The officers along with the camp owner entered the wooded area where they were baiting the bears and successfully removed the hunter from the tree without incident. No shots were fired and there were no injuries reported.
