Barrie Police Weekend Press Releases

(ORO-MEDONTE, ON) – Between Friday, December 30, 2016 at 8:00PM and Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 6:00AM, Officers from the Barrie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 67 Calls for Service. These calls varied from a Vehicle Fire to a Drug Offence and an Impaired Driver to several Motor Vehicle Collisions.

There were 13 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 12 of these collisions were single motor vehicle collisions into ditches. Barrie OPP continues to remind drivers to slow down and drive according to the road conditions.

Incidents of note:

On Saturday January 31, 2016 at 22:30PM while Officers were conducting a RIDE Program on Line 11 South near Mill Street in Oro-Medonte Township a 2001 black Mazda was stopped. The 19-year old male driver from Oro-Medonte Township was charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The accused was released on an Appearance Notice with a date to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.

On Sunday January 1, 2017 at 06:40AM Officers responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 southbound near Line 8 of Oro-Medonte Township. As a result of an investigation a 33-year old female from Brampton was charged with Care or Control over 80 mgs, and Uttering Threats, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and Possessions of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis contrary to The Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. And a 33-year old male passenger from Brampton was also charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The two accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie at a later date.

On Saturday January 1, 2017 at 15:10PM a 44-year old male from Wasaga Beach attended Barrie OPP Detachment to report as directed by a Probation Order. During the investigation it was found that this male had failed to attend on an earlier date and had now attended Barrie Detachment incorrectly as he was to report to Huronia West OPP Detachment. This male was arrested and charged for Failing to Comply with his Recognizance Order.
