BARN FIRE IN THAMES CENTRE, ROAD CLOSED

(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – On August 9, 2014, members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Thames Centre Fire Department (Dorchester and Thorndale stations), and the Central Elgin Fire Department (Belmont station), responded to a barn fire on Dorchester Road.

At approximately 2:23 p.m., an officer from the OPP Highway Safety Division (HSD) was aboard an OPP plane and observed the barn fire from the air. The OPP Provincial Communications Centre in London was notified, and officers on the ground were immediately deployed. The plane was in the area as part of the OPP Aircraft Enforcement Program for traffic safety.

The fire occurred at a rural residential property in the 3700 block of Dorchester Road. There were no injuries, and the property owner(s) were able to remove their livestock from the structure.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Police have closed a section of Dorchester Road between Cromarty and Thompson Road. The roadway is expected to be closed for some time and motorists will need to seek alternate routes.
