Automatic Licence Plate Recognition Helps Nab Another Suspended Driver

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Norfolk County detachment have charged a 39-year-old female after police stopped a vehicle at a Highway 24, Townsend, Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Friday, March 31, 2017 at approximately 7:40 a.m., officers were patrolling Highway 24 and were operating an Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) vehicle, which detects licence plates in poor standing.

As the officers were travelling southbound, the ALPR vehicle alerted the officer to a licence plate on a vehicle travelling northbound on Highway 24. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and investigated.

As a result, police have charged 39-year-old Barbara UNDERHILL of Tillsonburg, Ontario with driving while under suspension.

She is to appear in Provincial Court, Simcoe at a later date to answer to the charge.
