(NAPANEE, ON)- The Napanee detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police received a complaint from an area motel owner of a male attempting to rent several rooms for a ten night period.
The owner of the motel contacted police after receiving several emails from a male who claimed to reside in the United States. The suspect provided 4 different credit card numbers all with the same expiry date and directed the motel owner to utilize the “one that workedâ€Â. The suspect further enquired if the motel rooms had computers in them and when advised that they didn’t he requested that the owner purchase one using the supplied credit card number.
The business owner asked for identification to be sent by email and determined the credit card numbers did not belong to suspect.
The Ontario Provincial Police would like to remind business owners to verify credit card holder’s identities especially for large or unusual purchase requests including gift card purchases.
