(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On February 3, 2016, at approximately 4:53 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a freight trailer on fire on Southgate Rd. 14 in the Township of Southgate.
The victim had observed smoke emanating from the back of his rural property. He attended the area to investigate and found that the doors to the trailer had been opened and the trailer on fire. The 40 foot stainless steel trailer was used for storage.
Two unknown males on an ATV were seen crossing a large field towards 55 Sideroad at the time of the fire.
The North Wellington Fire Department attended the scene. Damage to the trailer was estimated at $4,000. Arson is suspected.
The suspect vehicle was described as a red, side by side ATV, possibly a Polaris, with a black roll bar.
Grey County OPP, with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU), Mount Forest, continues to investigate.
