(ARNPRIOR, ON) – The investigation into thefts of vehicles and thefts from vehicles in Arnprior and Renfrew which began in May 2016 has resulted in the arrest of the person believed responsible for these crimes. A 16-year-old male was arrested in Arnprior on September 1 and is facing several charges. OPP and Ottawa Police also held warrants for his arrest for failing to attend court, breaching conditions of an undertaking and being unlawfully at large.
The investigation began in May 2016 when reports of thefts from vehicles were made to Renfrew and Arnprior OPP officers. Items stolen include loose change, wallets, cell phones, lap top computers and other valuables from unlocked vehicles. In August the thief or thieves began to smash windows or otherwise damage vehicles to gain access and steal property. Officers also investigated thefts of 9 motor vehicles, all of which have been recovered.
At approximately noon on Thursday September 1 members of the OPP arrested the 16-year-old male. Under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act he cannot be identified. He is being held in custody for a bail hearing on September 2. He is facing numerous charges as the investigation continues.
