(QUINTE WEST, ON) β At approximately 11:30am on Friday the 15th of May, 2015, Quinte West OPP received a complaint of a suspicious person in the Brighton Wildlife Area off of Coltman Rd.
Officers responded and located two males however one fled from the officers on an ATV when they attempted to stop him. The male later abandoned the ATV and fled into the woods.
The OPP Canine Unit and OPP Emergency Response Team from the Quinte West Detachment tracked the suspect and arrested him in a heavily wooded area.
Investigation revealed the ATV had been stolen last November from a local business.
A 45 year old male from Codrington has been charged with:
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
Fail to Stop When Signaled or Requested to do so by a Police Officer, Sec 216(2) of the Highway Traffic Act
Fail to Wear a Proper Helmet Sec 19(1) of the Off Road Vehicle Act
Engage in Prohibited Activity on Premises Sec 2(1)(a)(i) of the Trespass to Property Act
The 45 year old male from Codrington was later released on a Promise to Appear and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville, in June.
