Another 1,000 Plant Grow Op Bust

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Central East Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) executed two search warrants at a property south of Kinmount over the last two days. Officers had been at the location September 21 and 22, 2016.

Investigators with DEU were assisted by OPP members from the Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), K9 and officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment. Officers seized a large quantity of marihuana in various stages of production. Over 1000 plants were seized. Also seized were commercial marihuana production equipment, a 22 calibre rifle, and a crossbow. Five persons are facing charges:

Brandon CUTHBERT, 27 years of age, of Beaverton:

Production of Marihuana contrary to section 7(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

Possession of a Schedule II Substance (marihuana) for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA

Brent CUTHBERT, 25 years of age, of Beaverton:

Production of Marihuana contrary to section 7(1) CDSA

Possession of a Schedule II Substance (marihuana) for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA

Mary Ann FARNELL, 39 years of age, of Uxbridge:

Production of Marihuana contrary to section 7(1) CDSA

Possession of a Schedule II Substance (marihuana) for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA

Bradley FRANCIS, 28 years of age, of Kinmount:

Production of Marihuana contrary to section 7(1) CDSA

Possession of a Schedule II Substance (marihuana) for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA

The above accused persons are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on November 3, 2016.

Frederick YORK, 69 years of age, of Kirkfield was charged with:

Production of Marihuana contrary to section 7(1) CDSA

Careless Storage of Firearm contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)

Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm contrary to section 91(1) of the CCC

Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to a Prohibition Order contrary to section 117.01(1) CCC (three counts)

The accused was held for a bail hearing.
