(COLLINGWOOD, ONTARIO) Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a male driver involved in a collision on the Highway 26 roundabout.
On the 14th of April 2014 shortly after 3:30pm police received a call for a collision involving a tractor trailer at the roundabout on 26 Highway and Poplar Sideroad in Collingwood. It was found that the truck was south bound on 26 Highway approaching the roundabout travelling at a higher rate of speed than what is posted in that area. At some point the driver lost control, the truck then jack-knifed and mounted the concrete median within the roundabout narrowly missing a vehicle in the process. Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident.
Interactions with the driver found that he was under the influence of alcohol which led to his arrest and transport to detachment for processing. Charged is 42 year-old Amritpal SANGHERA of Windsor, he is facing charges of driving while ability impaired, driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He is to appear in Collingwood court on the 6th of May 2014.
