(SOUTH RIVER, ON) On Sunday January 19, 2014 at approximately 2:00 a.m. officers from the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to investigate an assault that took place on Montreal Street in the Village of South River. Officers arrived at the scene and learned that a male had been assaulted and was unconscious.
Earlier in the evening both the accused and the victim had been at a dance at the South River arena when an altercation occurred between them. The accused was told to leave the arena at that time, which he did.
At approximately 2:00 a.m. the victim and his girlfriend were walking home on Montreal Street when the accused confronted them and the victim was assaulted.
Police arrested the accused Richard QUESNEL (37) of South River, Ontario and later released him from police custody. The accused is charged with assault and assault causing bodily harm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and is to appear in Court on Thursday February 27, 2014 in Sundridge, Ontario.
The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
